The Juvenile Emperor Angelfish (Pomacanthus imperator) is one of the most iconic and stunning marine angelfish available in the saltwater aquarium trade. As juveniles, they display a mesmerizing pattern of bold electric blue and white concentric rings on a deep black body. Over time, this striking juvenile coloration transforms into the regal yellow-and-blue striped appearance of the adult Emperor Angelfish.
Juvenile Emperor Angelfish are hardy and active, but they require a large, well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding. They may show territorial or semi-aggressive behavior as they mature, and they are best housed with other large fish species. In reef tanks, they may nip at corals, sponges, and clams, so they are best suited for fish-only with live rock (FOWLR) systems.
