The Blue Hippo Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus), also known as the Regal Tang, Palette Tang, or “Dory” from Finding Nemo, is one of the most iconic and recognizable saltwater fish in the hobby. With its brilliant blue body, bold black markings, and vibrant yellow tail, this active swimmer brings striking color and movement to reef aquariums.
Blue Hippo Tangs are reef safe and generally peaceful but require plenty of swimming space and hiding spots within live rock. They are best suited for larger aquariums where they can thrive and display their natural behavior. Known for their algae-grazing habits, they help maintain a healthy tank environment, though supplemental feeding with seaweed sheets, marine pellets, and frozen foods is necessary.
